![]() Name: Rabastan Dante Lestrange Age/Birthday: 18/December 1, 1955 House/Year: Slytherin/7th Location: Kent, England Year they were living in: January 1974 Blood: Pureblood Alignment (Order, DE, Neutral?): DE. He's definitely not joining The Order, and he rarely allows himself the luxury of neutrality, so Rabastan is a Death Eater. He's quite aware of his place as the second son. Rodolphus is the heir, he is the one who will inherit the majority of the Lestrange holdings and prestige. While by no means a pauper, Rabastan feels that he needs to make his place in the world, and so he becomes a Death Eater. Wand: 12 ½ inch vine wood with a unicorn hair core. Prefecture: Though Rabastan isn't always the biggest stickler for the rules, he's a good role model for the other students, particularly the younger Slytherins. He is very conscious of where the line is between what's acceptable and what isn't, and he rarely crosses the line. He can show the students how to skirt close enough to breaking the rules to satisfy their desire to be rebellious, but he also will keep them from getting expelled for it. Quidditch: Beater, is also captain in 1973/74 Weaknesses and Strengths: It is ironic to Rabastan that his greatest strengths are often his biggest weaknesses, and visa versa. Personal strengths/weaknesses: He is strongest in his unwavering desire to make something of himself. He's not a lazy example of a pureblood, but a determined, driven one. He gets an idea in his mind and he neglects all else until he has satisfied it. It is an admirable quality, that some might describe as motivation or being assertive. However, this is also a great weakness. Often when he sets his mind on something he gets tunnel vision. He fails to see the larger picture because he's so focused on the goal. Naturally initiative, he is blessed with a strong sense of common sense. His decision making skills help him avoid trouble on many occasions, but, on the other hand, this is also a bad thing. Sometimes Rabastan acts on instinct before stepping back for a moment to calculate the risks and options. On more than one occasion this has come back to harm him. Magical strengths/weaknesses: Rabastan's strong point is Defense Against the Dark Arts, particularly because the Dark Arts have always fascinated him. He sees no problem with using "Dark Magic" so long as it's for a reasonable cause. He's also quite good at Charms, but only because his friend Narcissa is gifted at it. He often asks her opinion in that subject when he is stumped. He isn't talented at Herbology, because he grows bored easily and would prefer to be doing spells and hexes with his wand rather than dealing with plants. He has a disgust for Divination, both because he has no talent for it and because it's an inexact study. Friendships and Relationships: Rodolphus Lestrange: Rabastan's brother is in many ways his role model as well as his rival. When he was a child he used to want to be Rodolphus, and as he grew older and realized that was impossible, he wanted to beat him. Still, despite the rivalry, Rabastan is fond of his older brother. He sees something dangerous in him, and that was one of the main reasons why Rabastan joined the Death Eaters. His brother, he knew, could be rash at times, and, rather like the older brother instead of the younger, Rabastan wanted to protect Rodolphus. Frederick and Cecelia Lestrange: Rabastan's relationship with his parents is a complex one, but one which he holds dear. Though his father has always pushed him and his mother has always tried to coddle him, he loves them. Narcissa Black: Narcissa is easily Rabastan's best friend, as well as his confidant. She was the first he told of his plans to join Voldemort, and she is one of the few who he is completely honest with. Their times patrolling the school as prefects are some of the fondest in his memory. Other friends: ((I'd love to create some backstory for Rabastan, as he likely would have been very close to those in his house.)) Sexual orientation: Rabastan is straight. He is strongly attracted to women, (despite his attempts to be calculated and disciplined in all things, a pretty woman can be quite distracting to him) and he’s never considered being anything other than straight. Family: Rabastan is the younger brother of Rodolphus. That is his primary relationship with his family, the friendship, and often rivalry, between the two brothers. Though he has several older male cousins from France and distant parts of the United Kingdom, Rodolphus has always been the one to beat. Rodolphus’s place, as the first born, the bigger brother, the one who set the bar to be raised, was assured from his birth. Bastan, however, always tried to best his brother. The desire to make the most of himself was mainly driven by their father, who constantly reminded Rabastan of what his brother was doing at that age. Even though his mother doted on him as her youngest, he still felt the need to attempt to rise to his father’s expectations. Eventually though, even as his father grew content with his heir and left Rabastan to his own devices, Rabastan continued to strive to make the most of himself. Even though his father was confident that his heir would be enough to uphold the Lestrange name, Rabastan wasn’t content being merely the “spare.” While not the most nurturing of family experiences, Rabastan is fond of his family, and would defend any of them to the death. History: Rabastan Dante Lestrange was born on December 1, 1955 to Frederick and Cecelia Lestrange in southern France. His father's family was from there and so he spent the first five years of his life there, growing quite fluent in French as well as English. Eventually though, his mother started to grow homesick for her native England so they returned. Because of his upbringing Rabastan is fluent in both French as well as English, and he will always hold a fond spot for the chateau that he called home in France. From his earliest years there was an intense competitive nature between the Lestrange males. It was this rivalry that led him to study longer, work harder, try to do anything to make the most of himself. When he got to Hogwarts he was relieved to find himself in Slytherin. It was the house that he had been hoping for, the only acceptable house, as well as the house that he knew would allow him to make the most of himself. He looked to those older than him in his house as mentors, seeking to follow their example when he could and he tried his hardest to provide a good example for those younger than himself. He began to look at those in his house as a family of sorts, and was known to get into trouble defending those in his house even when he knew they were in the wrong. Family, in his opinion, always had to have a strong façade to everyone else. He was very protective of those close to him. His opinion on other houses was mixed. He related to the rivalry between Slytherin and Gryffindor because of the rivalry he and his brother had. He devoted himself to making sure that Slytherin bested Gryffindor at every turn. He was unsure of what to think of the other two houses. Hufflepuffs were next to squibs in his book. They're pitiful in a rather sad way, but he avoided them in an intense fear that he will form a friendship with one and thus be forced to protect him/her. Ravenclaws were alright, depending from person to person, but he was generally wary of them because he wants to keep his friends in Slytherin. He's excelled in his time at Hogwarts, his ambition and strong desire to make something of himself has led to him becoming both a prefect and a Quidditch player, as well as making several friendships that he's certain will last a lifetime. His decision to join the Death Eaters in his seventh year had been a hard one. Many might have blamed the decision entirely on Frederick, said that Rabastan was too eager to live up to his father's expectations, but Rabastan knew it wasn't entirely true. He had been, oddly, shielded from many of the harsher realities of what it was to be a Death Eater. Because of Rodolphus's place as one of the most ambitious young Death Eaters, the Dark Lord made a spot for him a bit earlier than he did for most, hoping that Rabastan would help him recruit from within the school. Rabastan knew it would be difficult, certainly, but he had no idea HOW difficult. Sometimes he still regrets his decisions, but being a Death Eater isn't something you can back out of. Personality: Rabastan is very independent, very much the alpha male. It is important to him to always be seen as strong and in control, which isn't necessarily a good thing because it's impossible to always be on top and perfect. He is, despite everything, an amusing, almost comical individual when he's around friends. He can be loose and laid back at times, but he clams up around strangers or those he doesn't trust, stands up straight and does everything to appear to be a well bred gentleman. He's at his happiest when he is able to let his guard down around friends, or when he's alone flying. Though he won't pursue Quidditch professionally after Hogwarts, he still likes to fly. On time-travel: Rabastan is both curious and ambitious, but the real reason why he was pulled by the spell is one even he is not aware of. Rabastan craves a chance to make a name for himself. That's not to say that he doesn't love his family, that he wants to distance himself from them, because he doesn't. What he wants is to distinguish himself, to make his own name and to crawl out from under his brother's shadow, his father's, his granfather's....the list goes on and on. Appearance: Rabastan is tall (6’2) of a medium but toned build and tanned as a result of his outdoor activities. His hair is a dark brown, and his eyes are a dark hazel, often favoring green or brown more depending on his mood. He’s nearly always immaculate in his appearance, as he views his appearance as a direct sign of his own personal strength and character. He tends to dress in subtle yet expensive materials. He has a few scars from stray hex marks and the Dark Mark on his left arm. PB: Jake Gyllenhaal |
